The Raider Girl’s soccer team delivered the program their first win of the new season against the Byron Bears 2-1.
Early in the first half, Bryon created strong build up play through the midfield allowing them to strike first on a rebounded shot off the crossbar in the 31st minute.
Not long after, the Raiders catch a break in the 27th minute as Byron scores an own goal from the corner kick of senior Kate Hubers.
Both teams made a number of strong challenges throughout the game. The Raiders were awarded a penalty kick in the 77th minute, where Senior Olivia Rasmussen stepped up to score a late goal and help the team earn their first win of the season.
The Raider defense also played a pivotal role in securing the win. Both Kate Hubers and Ava Hietala were key in keeping the Bears out of their half. Sophomore Goalkeeper Linnea Wilhelm also played a major role in defending and distributing with confidence for the Raiders.
The Raider Girls will be featured again here on NorthfieldLive this Thursday at home vs Mankato East.
